in Google Results in LATAM
From my perspective, to really grasp what a Generative Digital Footprint is, you first need to understand the concept of a digital footprint. Simply put, it’s everything that shows up when you search online for a company, a person, or a service, whether it’s on Google, Bing, or platforms like YouTube, LinkedIn, and X.
With the emergence and growth of artificial intelligence tools such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Copilot (Bing), Gemini (Google), and others, a new way of accessing information and thus a new type of digital footprint has been created: the Generative Digital Footprint.
Difference Between a Digital Footprint and a Generative Digital Footprint
The Generative Digital Footprint includes everything from the traditional digital footprint but adds AI-generated results. These can appear both in traditional search engines when they provide AI-generated content and in the summaries offered by tools like Gemini in Google searches, as well as in responses from AI chat platforms (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot or Perplexity).
We are now in a context where Google Search increasingly provides diverse types of responses. These no longer consist solely of images, videos, or rich snippets but also related questions and now, AI content from Gemini, even appearing as top results in Google Search.
How to Use Gemini, Google’s AI, in Mexico
These results are generated using Gemini, Google’s AI, and are known as Google AI Overviews. It’s important to note that AI-generated results within search engines function differently in LATAM compared to the European Union, as such results are currently unavailable in the latter region.
AI tools rely on traditional search engines (Google, Bing, YouTube, etc.) as sources of information to generate their responses. Surprisingly, only a few companies are paying close attention to this critical aspect, despite it being a new way to generate organic traffic. However, it also poses reputational risks, especially considering the “hallucinations” caused by the immature state of current algorithms.
How to Tackle the Generative Digital Footprint Challenge
How Google and Gemini’s AI Overviews revolutionize search results
With the rise of AI tools, Google has integrated Gemini results, a feature that enhances the search experience by displaying direct links and allowing users to save summaries of information extracted through this technology. These results appear more frequently in question-based queries, which is something to consider when developing SEO strategies to maintain ranking, visibility, and organic traffic.
The launch of this Google feature has been gradual. It is now available almost worldwide except in the European Union. In Mexico, one of the first countries to see its rollout, we are already witnessing real cases with our clients:

In addition to Gemini’s integrated search results, the tool also continues to offer results in various formats:

Generative Digital Footprint: A New Digital Challenge
While AI tools clearly bring benefits, such as resource optimization and process automation, they also present significant challenges in defining and implementing digital strategies. In such a rapidly evolving environment, adapting digital strategies from traditional footprints to Generative Digital Footprints is crucial to becoming a key source of information for a brand, its products, or its services available online.
At ROI UP Group, we see effective management of the Generative Digital Footprint as a cornerstone of corporate communication and a new source of traffic. We are actively indexing our clients’ content into AI tools, as highlighted in this article, to boost their organic traffic while our AI team thrives in the most dynamic and ever-changing digital landscape we’ve ever seen. Therefore, we now offer GEO services SEO positioning for AI.
